Proball have been conducting basketball tours since 1983. Proball have found games and hosting for over 2000 players from both the USA and Australia. This aspect of our wonderful game is a major educational benefit for all both players and coaches. Many times we see players forging strong friendships with host families that last for years. In many cases the friendships cross continents and we hear of players visiting each other for years afterward.
Even if the people speak the same language there can be much learnt from such cultural and sporting exchanges. Also this is a much less expensive way to travel accross national borders as the visits with host families can lead to fewer expenses. The family hosting is generally the one thing players remember about their tour. Comments are made about the generosity and friendliness of the host families. You cannot buy that experience !! Also the visitors get a local view of the area they visit which opportunity many tourists never get. The teams visiting Australia also get the benefits of visiting major destinations like Sydney, surf beaches and an outback experience. The coaches benefit from viewing the game from another perspective as well as in some cases recruiting players from countries like Australia to enhance their College programmes. About 60 players a year are now entering the USA college system from Australia alone. USA teams often also include destinations like Hawaii to finish off their tour and have a little R&R.
